DES MOINES, Iowa —
Animal Lifeline of Iowa, a special-needs, no-kill animal shelter on Des Moines' south side, has been saving animals for nearly 40 years, often taking in animals with severe injuries that might not have a chance anywhere else.
Two fortunate dogs, Snickers and Balin, are among the latest beneficiaries of the shelter's care. Snickers is preparing to charm attendees at Animal Lifeline's benefit auction on Saturday. Despite his energetic demeanor, Snickers has overcome significant challenges.
"Snickers is a 10-month-old Shih Tzu who came to us after being hit by a car," said Stacie Leinen, executive director of Animal Lifeline of Iowa. "His pelvis was broken in three places, and he was scheduled to be euthanized before the veterinary clinic reached out to Animal Lifeline f
