DORCHESTER COUNTY — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 17A the morning on Nov. 7 that left one dead and another injured.

According to Cpl. Nick Pye, the collision occurred around 11:15 a.m. near the highway’s intersection with Clubhouse Road.

A Chevrolet sedan and a Ram pickup truck were both driving south on U.S. 17A, Pye said. The pickup truck was attempting to pass when the sedan tried to make a left turn into a private drive, resulting in the truck colliding with the Chevy.

The driver of the sedan died at the scene, and the passenger in the car was transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Ram pickup truck was not injured.

The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released, and the condition of the passenger
