A new restaurant has opened in Middlesex County, taking over the spot previously owned by a family business for decades.
Kathiyawadi Kitchen II, located in Edison on Oak Tree Road, is an Indian Gujarati restaurant offering traditional vegetarian dishes.
The Edison Chamber of Commerce announced the new restaurant’s grand opening in a social media post on Thursday.
The Edison Family Restaurant, the previous owner of the space, closed last year after 48 years of operation.
The family restaurant was originally opened in 1976 and became locally beloved for its quart-sized soups like chicken noodle, beef barley and matzoh ball soup. The tenants were evicted after unpaid rent bills started to pile up.
Kathiyawadi Kitchen has a sister restaurant in Sayreville, located on Jernee Mill Road.
