LAWRENCE, Kan. ( KCTV /Gray News) - A college student in Kansas was killed in a hit-and-run while she was running, according to authorities.
At 3:35 a.m. Friday, deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a body found near the road in the 1700 block of E 1500 Road in north Lawrence.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they determined that 20-year-old Elsa McGrain had died.
Investigators determined she was struck around 6 p.m. Thursday, likely while she was out running.
On Saturday, the victim’s family shared more information with the Lawrence Police Department in hopes that the suspect involved would be found.
According to the McGrain family, she was a pre-med student at the University of Kansas, set to graduate in 2026.
