INDIANAPOLIS — The No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers rallied to beat the Penn State Nittany Lions, 27-24, with a late touchdown to avoid an upset at Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Heisman Trophy candidate Fernando Mendoza found Omar Cooper Jr. in the back of the endzone for an amazing seven-yard touchdown with 36 seconds to play to put Indiana back on top. Cooper just barely got his foot down in bounds to complete the incredible play. The catch was upheld after a video review.
The victory is the Hoosiers' first victory in University Park after losing their first 13 tries.
The Hoosiers led 17-7 at halftime behind touchdown runs from Mendoza and Kaelon Black and a 28-yard field goal by Nico Radicic.
Radicic added a 31-yarder in the third quarter to push Indiana's lead to 20-7.
