HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The 6A state cross country finals weren’t just a race—they were a family affair, with two sets of siblings claiming top spots on the podium.
On the girls’ side, senior Lilly Beshears of Rogers High School claimed the 6A title, overcoming a prolonged illness that had sidelined her for six weeks.
“I’m just grateful to be able to come out here and run,” Beshears said. “Hopefully I get to race her in a few years again.”
Close on her heels was sophomore Hattie Ray of Har-Ber High School, who finished second. Hattie’s admiration for her competitor was clear.
“She did great," Ray said. "I mean, she's only been running for a few days, maybe a week. So for her to come out here after not running, not weight bearing, barely for a few weeks, it’s been amazing.”
