Star Trek is discontinuing its main cinematic timeline, but the franchise needs to ensure it doesn't repeat the mistakes of another space franchise. It's been nearly 10 years since Star Trek Beyond , the third film in J.J. Abrams' Kelvin timeline . The series successfully rebooted Star Trek for a new generation, bringing back original characters including Spock, Captain Kirk, and Uhura.
While a fourth movie was in development, the franchise has been primarily focused on its many TV shows on Paramount+ , including Picard , Strange New Worlds , Discovery , and Lower Decks . Unfortunately, a fourth movie with Chris Pine , Zachary Quinto, and the rest of the cast won't be coming as Paramount is scrapping the Kelvin timeline.
