After delivering what the Prime Minister described as an “austerity budget” last week, Mark Carney, his Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, and hundreds of lobbyists, political staff, bureaucrats, stakeholders, Liberal cabinet ministers, MPs and journalists celebrated at a popular Ottawa watering hole.
In an article headlined “Champagne’s budget and ‘Prosecco Prudence’ at The Met” featuring a photo of a celebratory (to put it mildly) Champagne surrounded by grinning supporters, _The Hill Times_ – “an influential must-read for the savvy political and government insider” – described the event this way:
“Finance Minister Champagne takes a victory lap at the Metropolitan Brasserie on Nov. 4 at Politico and Earnscliffe Strategies’ post-budget party.”
