Wellesley Street is closed between Church Street to Jarvis Street due to a sinkhole in the area, police said Saturday afternoon.
The sinkhole was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to Toronto Police Service. An "extended closure" is expected, police said on social media.
Toronto Water crews are on site and investigating the damage, which is suspected to be caused by a water leak, Toronto Fire Services said on Saturday.
The damage appears to be primarily affecting the bike lane near a fire hydrant. City crews are working on repairs, according to police, and TPS officers are on site enforcing the road closure.
Police said to avoid the area if possible on social media.
