MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Two people were hospitalized after bees got loose inside a car and caused a crash in Mesa on Saturday morning.

First responders were dispatched to the area of Mesa Drive and McKellips Road on reports of a car driving into a pole.

Authorities say the vehicle was transporting bees, which escaped and stung the driver, causing the crash.

Both the driver and a pedestrian were transported to a nearby hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Northbound Mesa Drive and westbound McKellips Road are closed as crews work to clear the scene.
