Readers of the correct vintage (aged well) will remember when our television sets were graced with three networks, not the gazillion or so that our smart TVs know. Frankly, I wish mine would forget most of them; it’s too annoying to work my way to the handful I care about.

In those halcyon days of yore (I’ve been waiting to use that word) our favorite shows would take a summer break and a replacement program would occupy its spot so viewers wouldn’t forget its appeal.
