LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- This week, Waterford School Board Trustee John Paul Torres announced he is seeking the Democratic nomination for Michigan's 11th Congressional District seat.
The seat is currently held by Haley Stevens (D-Birmingham), who is seeking the nomination for U.S. Senate when Gary Peters retires.
Torres is positioning his campaign as a child of immigrants and a "fighter."
"My parents taught me when you see something wrong, you fix it," he said in a campaign video. "Don't let anybody ever tell you this country isn't yours. It's all of ours."
Torres joins a crowded Democratic field that includes state Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Bloomfield Township), Sterling Heights attorney Aisha Farooqi and former Ford engineer Don Ufford of Bloomfield Township.
