CHICAGO (KWTX) — A gunman fired shots at U.S. Border Patrol agents during immigration enforcement operations Friday near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

An unknown male driving a black Jeep fired shots at agents and fled the scene. The shooter and vehicle remain at large.

An unknown number of people also threw a paint can and bricks at Border Patrol vehicles during the incident. The Chicago Police Department was called for assistance and cleared the scene.

DHS officials said the incident reflects a growing trend of violence and obstruction against federal law enforcement.
