EAST LANSING — Following a thrilling overtime win over No. 3 Penn State on Friday night, the No. 1-ranked Michigan State made easier work of the Nittany Lions on Saturday, winning 5-0 to claim five points in the Big Ten standings from their opening series in conference play.

MSU was relentless on its forecheck, overwhelming Penn State through the first two periods to jump out to a 3-0 lead. From there, junior goaltender Trey Augustine shut the door, making 35 saves for his third shutout of the season. MSU added two late goals for the 5-0 win.

MSU senior forward Charlie Stramel got MSU on the board early, receiving a pass from freshman forward Porter Martone and sniping a shot to the corner of the net over the shoulder of Penn State goaltender Josh Fleming just 2:31 into the game.
