PENTICTON — Getting to know those who made the ultimate sacrifice was the lesson for a small group of Uplands Elementary School students who visited Lakeview Cemetery on Thursday.
The solemn ceremony, held among swirling autumn leaves, saw students place poppies on the gravesites of fallen veterans as part of the No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation program.
“I think that it’s really important to see this because it’s easier to reflect when we’re here,” said Grade 6 student Luke Mortimer, 11, as he read aloud the name on one of the tombstones. “We need to remember these people who are buried here because of how much they did for us.”
