INDIANAPOLIS – Perfection.
The Carroll Chargers wrapped up the first perfect season in program history with an 3-0 win over Plainfield in the Class 4A Girls Volleyball State Finals on Saturday, winning 25-17, 25-17, 25-15 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Carroll, which had never won a volleyball state title before defeating Yorktown 3-0 in Muncie last year, has now claimed two in a row.
The No. 1 Chargers (37-0) never faltered in the first set against the Quakers (29-6), leading 10-6 at the first timeout of the match and stretching that lead to 15-8 before junior outside hitter Sarah Stegall wrapped up the set with a kill. Carroll had a team-wide hitting percentage of .324 and had 18 kills in the first set.
The Chargers opened the second set by winning a marathon point on an Addi Shippy kill.
