MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - A new opportunity for Vermont students to get a college degree for free.
The McClure Foundation’s free degree promise helps young Vermonters get a debt-free associate degree from the Community College of Vermont.
Since its launch three years ago, hundreds of young Vermonters have benefitted from the program.
It was recently extended to include 10th and 11th graders, in hopes of increasing those numbers in the future.
“It gives them a sense of autonomy, and I think it makes them feel like the state sees them, wants them, wants to invest in their future. That is really having an incredible impact,” Katie Mobley, the CCV Dean of Enrollment and Community Involvement said.
Leaders say it’s a boon for both Vermont students, and the state’s workforce.
