JASPER, Texas — Highway 96 near FM 1005 was shut down Saturday afternoon as emergency crews respond to a hunting accident in Jasper County.
According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 4:55 p.m. about a deer hunter who had fallen from a deer stand on a property off County Road 304.
Deputies, along with the Tri-Community Fire Department, Texas Game Wardens, and Allegiance EMS, worked to retrieve the injured hunter from the woods so he could receive medical treatment.
A medical helicopter landed at Highway 96 and FM 1005, but reportedly experienced mechanical issues. Another medical helicopter was called in immediately after.
The highway reopened around 8 p.m..
