The Maple Leafs are good enough to win games they shouldn’t.

But when they play poorly against the red-hot Boston Bruins, as they did Saturday night, the resulting 5-3 loss should come as no surprise, even if the third period kept the Scotiabank Arena crowd on the edge of their seats.

The Leafs could barely put three passes together for most of the game and No. 1 goalie Anthony Stolarz was pulled for the first time this season as Toronto lost for the first time in four games. The Bruins won their seventh in a row.

As if to rub salt in their wounds, former Leafs centre Fraser Minten scored Boston’s fifth goal moments after a William Nylander shot hit the cross bar and both posts but stayed out of the net.
