China’s consumer prices unexpectedly rose in October, as holidays during the month boosted travel, food and transport demand.
The consumer-price index rose 0.2% last month from a year earlier, after a 0.3% decline in September, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Sunday. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg was for a 0.1% drop.
Service costs rose 0.2%, compared with a 0.3% decline in September and contributed to the rise in inflation, according to the statistics bureau.
The producer-price index decreased 2.1% year on year, compared with a 2.3% drop in September.
