EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Michigan State plays four preseason top 25 teams in the non-conference portion of its schedule, and on Saturday MSU passed the first test

The No. 22-ranked Spartans took down No. 14 Arkansas, 69-66, to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Freshman Cam Ward had a team-high 18 points and ten rebounds off the bench. Coen Carr added 15 points for Michigan State.

Arkansas led 39-36 at halftime, but MSU would take the lead back on a 3-pointer by Trey Fort with 16:44 remaining. MSU never trailed after that and led by as much as eight in the second half.

This victory comes despite the Spartans struggling to shoot the ball, going 1-14 on 3s, and point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. having just four points, all coming from the free throw line.
