Will Stoneman's maiden century and Eastern Suburbs' unbeaten start to the season held a special significance for him.
With a more mature, balanced approach and sure of his role in the team, Stoneman delivered in style with a potentially match-winning 149 off just 116 balls to set up a day one total of 323 against Western Suburbs.
"Will's strokeplay was nothing short of first-class. There were some beautiful shots in there, and it was just pure timing," Easts coach Shannon Threlfo said of Stoneman's innings.
Previously out three times in his 90s, Stoneman said he came to doubt whether he would ever break through for an elusive ton.
"It was a great feeling. I've played since I was an eight-year-old, and I've never got one. It was good to finally get rid of the burden," Stoneman said.
