PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Congresswoman Maxine Dexter (D-3rd District) faced tough questions from her constituents at a Portland town hall on Saturday morning as the government shutdown shows no signs of an off-ramp.
Dexter was grilled on her current stance on the government shutdown, which she said is to “hold the line.”
“How do you balance this idea of caving, the word you used, and making sure that people get their supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits, so that people can get food on the table?” asked one person.
Dexter and other Congressional Democrats are signaling they won’t vote to reopen the government without promises from Republicans that “Obamacare” subsidies will be extended, keeping health care premiums lower for millions of Americans.
