Mesa’s first recall since its 1883 incorporation produced a political upset in Council District 2, booting a two-term incumbent and replacing her with a newcomer.
According to unofficial results, Dorean Taylor, a small-business owner, captured over 50% of the votes, besting Councilwoman Julie Spilsbury, who conceded after the initial count Tuesday evening. About a third of the district’s registered voters participated in the recall election.
Newcomer Dorean Taylor will complete Councilwoman Julie Spilsbury's term, which ends January 2029.
