T he Distinguished Flying Cross Society will roll through the East Valley Veterans Parade aboard a U.S. Army Deuce and a Half truck, supplied by Dr. Barron Smith of Mesa.

It will carry a dozen members who represent some of America’s most distinguished aviators. Each branch of the military will be represented with service flags as these heroes return salutes from the crowd.

Established in 1994, the nonprofit organization honors recipients of the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), the nation’s highest award for extraordinary aerial achievement and fourth-highest medal for valor overall.

The DFC, created by an Act of Congress on July 2, 1926, has been awarded to legendary figures such as Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart.
