The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government has been carrying out eviction drives to clear encroached lands.
The Assam government has launched an eviction drive to clear 1,140 bighas of encroached forest land in Dohikota Reserved Forest in Golapara district on Sunday morning.
As per official inputs, the eviction drive is likely to take at least two days.
Goalpara DC Prodip Timung, said, “We have issued eviction notices to 580 families. The entire stretch of land is completely under the Dahikata Reserve Forest and has been encroached by these people.”
Meanwhile, a large reinforcement of police and commandos have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order during today’s eviction drive.
