After getting so close the last two seasons to winning the NJSIAA Group championship, Shore finally got over the hump.

Shore, No. 10 in the NJ.com Top 20, scored 45 points in the win, comfortably ahead of second place Metuchen’s 76 points at Holmdel Park. Bogota finished behind Metuchen in third place with 110 points. Shore had been one of the most complete teams in all Group 1 this year, leveraging its strong coaching and depth on its roster.

Head coach Jack Tarpery shared the team’s approach and how it paid off for the Blue Devils in the end.

“Each meet we always tried to go out there and have the best race we could as a team. We never tried to get too far ahead of ourselves, and we wanted to experience the different courses and take it one race at a time.”
