There are several franchises from the pantheon of gaming history that are so iconic, it's a bit of an event any time we get something new set within them.

Mario is the most obvious example, but there are several other characters who have almost as much of a right to the crown of most instantly recognisable in video games.

One of those is Sonic, with the speedy blue hedgehog a mainstay on the gaming scene for more than three decades at this point. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is one of the more recent additions to that list, drawing all the attention back in September, but another Sonic game has just dropped that should appeal both existing and new fans.
