The death of former Vice President Dick Cheney reminded me of the epiphany I had on Aug. 8, 1974, when President Richard Nixon resigned due to the Watergate investigation.

All the hatred I had toward him just two months before turning 21 simply melted away, and I vowed to never store such vicious feelings toward anyone ever again.

I fully supported President Gerald Ford granting him a pardon for his actions and proudly took the heat for it from many friends and classmates while attending Kent State University.

Though I didn't vote for George W. Bush in 2000, it was easy not to hate him, for he was and still is a very likable guy. Not hating Cheney was a bit more difficult for obvious reasons. Can't say I ever liked him while he was in office.
