TORONTO - Southern Ontario is experiencing its first snowfall of the season today. Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for various regions across the province, including areas from London to Ottawa, as a low-pressure system moves through.
Toronto is forecasted to receive between five to 10 centimeters of snow, with snowfall expected to continue into the evening. Meanwhile, Ottawa may see a more significant accumulation, with predictions of 10 to 20 centimeters.
Motorists are advised to prepare for challenging driving conditions and to adjust their travel plans accordingly. The weather agency recommends that drivers consider installing winter tires to enhance safety on the roads.
In response to the impending cold weather, the City of Toronto has opened additional shelter spaces for individuals experiencing homelessness. This decision comes as temperatures in the city are anticipated to drop to -5 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Southern and central Quebec are also preparing for their first snowfall, with Montreal expected to receive nearly 10 centimeters of snow by Monday.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and to take necessary precautions as winter weather settles in.
