FELTON – Two returning runners shaved close to a minute from their personal bests. A soccer player put down his boots and picked up spikes. Another decided to pull double duty, often running in a meet the day before he'd start on the pitch.
Together, they helped make Saint Mark's among the deepest boys cross country teams in the state. The Spartans put the final touch on a superb season on Nov. 8 at Killens Pond, winning their first DIAA boys Division II title since 2007.
That happens to be the year the senior class was born.
"Today is the dream that came true," senior Alec Jurgaitis said.
Jurgaitis remembers two years ago when the best runners on Saint Mark's were finishing in the mid 17s. This year, the Spartans at times placed their entire seven-man varsity crew under 17 minutes. Ju
