Michigan was on a bye this past week but improved in the Associated Press college football poll.
The Wolverines (7-2 overall, 5-1 Big Ten) jumped to No. 18 from No. 21 in the new poll released Sunday.
Michigan is still in contention for the College Football Playoff but will need to sweep its final three games to have a shot – at Northwestern (at Wrigley Field), at Maryland, and home against Ohio State. The new CFP rankings will be released Tuesday night.
The Michigan vs. Northwestern game begins at noon and will be televised by Fox.
Texas returned to the top 10 in the AP poll, the ACC has five teams ranked for the first time this season and two Group of Five conferences are now represented in the top 25. The top five was unchanged.
