SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A local cat cafe is helping family pets stay fed as the government shutdown continues.
Several Georgians remain affected by the halt on SNAP benefits, and while organizations have stepped up to decrease hunger and food insecurity in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry, a silent family member has also been impacted: pets.
The Savannah staple, Pounce Cat Cafe, has helped approximately 1700 cats get adopted through the cafe over the years, and now, the organization is coming up front to give back to families struggling to feed their furry friends. Cafe owner Ashley Brooks says they have seen many donations and support from the community:
"We've definitely gotten a ton of Amazon boxes... probably 100 cans of cat food. I'm sure there's a ton of deliveries coming through
