Detectives are investigating the death of a 36-year-old inmate found unresponsive inside a Maryland state prison cell over the weekend, officials said.
The man, identified as Ray Stephen Oselmo, was discovered lying on the ground in his cell at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover around 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, according to Maryland State Police.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced Oselmo dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit contacted Maryland State Police’s Homicide Unit to assist with the case.
A suspect, who is also an inmate, has been identified but has not yet been charged or named pending further investigation, police said.
State Police investigators and crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division responded to process the scene.
“The investigation is active and ongoing,” police said, noting that once complete, the case will be presented to the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
