The New York Mets have to decide on how big a contract they are willing to give to Pete Alonso, but have options if the five-time All-Star walks in free agency.
After failing to come to terms on a long-term contract last offseason, New York signed Alonso to a two-year, $54 million deal, which allowed the 30-year-old to hit the open market again after opting out of the last year on his contract. Alonso is one of the best sluggers in baseball and continued his dominance at the plate this season, mashing 38 home runs with 126 RBIs and a career-high 41 doubles.
