WILKES-BARRE — Despite the rainy weather, at least 100 parade goers lined the streets around Public Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre Sunday to pay tribute to those who served their country at the 80th annual Wyoming Valley Veterans Day Parade.

The sky was grey and overcast, with a light drizzle that turned into a downpour in the late afternoon, just as the parade was wrapping up.

Susan Allen, a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and chairman of the Veteran’s Day Parade Committee, was grateful people still showed up even as the threat of rain loomed from above.

“We’ve never canceled this parade,” she said. “We’ve held this parade every year since 1945, even during [the] COVID [-19 Pandemic.]”
