Australia's landmark youth social media ban will give kids their childhood back, but its rollout next month won't be perfect as key questions remain about the plan.

From December 10, children aged 16 and younger will be booted off platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, X, Kick and Reddit.

Communications Minister Anika Wells heralded the government's national education campaign as a success, but said implementation of the reforms will take time for kids and parents to get used to.

But seven out of 10 kids have experienced online harm, she added, which is too big of a statistic for the government to ignore.
