KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The KC Shepherd’s Center is asking for community support for its ‘More than a Meal’ program.
It is one of the largest nonprofit providers of Meals on Wheels, keeping homebound seniors on a fixed income fed.
The organization’s Executive Director, Janet Baker, says that federal funding cuts earlier this year drastically reduced the number of seniors the nonprofit can serve through Meals on Wheels.
“Meals on Wheels funding has been decreasing steadily over the last year, from where we were serving 1,200 homebound seniors, to now, we are only serving 500. It's declined that dramatically,” Baker explained.
She says the funding cuts to that program, coupled with SNAP benefit delays, have directly impacted homebound seniors in the KC metro.
