OREGON, USA — Governors in Oregon and Washington said Sunday they will resist Trump administration demands to undo Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits distributed to hundreds of thousands of residents following a federal court order.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) sent a memorandum Friday to state SNAP administrators nationwide, directing them to reverse any full November benefit payments and return to issuing reduced benefits reflecting a 35% cut from maximum allotments, according to the memorandum from Deputy Under Secretary Patrick A. Penn . The directive came one day after the U.S. Supreme Court granted the USDA an administrative stay of a Rhode Island federal district court order that had required full benefit payments.
