Washington ― Michigan Democratic Sens. Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin both voted late Sunday against advancing a bipartisan deal to end the 40-day government shutdown, expressing frustration that the terms don't take immediate action to cut health care costs.

The agreement, which advanced by a 60-40 vote, includes three full-year spending bills and extends the balance of government funding through January, with a Republican promise to hold a vote on expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies in December.
