PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona residents who purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplace could see an increase in premiums as high as 55%.
This comes as enhanced premium tax credits are set to expire next year, unless Congress decides to extend the subsidies.
For residents like 24-year-old Ashton Young, an increase like this could be devastating. “Such a jarring, sudden change with only a maximum of two months’ warning, it’s hard to imagine,” she said.
A few years ago, Young said she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of asthma. Her treatment requires monthly injections, doctor visits and medicine, all of which she said cost about $8,000 a month.
