CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – A sheriff's deputy sergeant in southeastern New Mexico is in trouble after being pulled over for driving while intoxicated (DWI). A Carlsbad police officer noticed a red truck speeding and struggling to stay in its lane in late October. When the officer stopped the vehicle and recognized the driver, he immediately knew who it was.
The Carlsbad police officer stopped the red truck, which was driven by Eddy County Sheriff’s Sergeant Simranjit Khurana. According to the criminal complaint, the officer could smell alcohol as he approached the truck. The complaint also says the officer was familiar with Khurana from their work together at the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office.
The officer conducted a field sobriety test, and Khurana refused to take a breathalyzer test.
