SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - In the spring of 2016 TJ Otzelberger was named the new head coach of the South Dakota State men’s basketball team.

In his three seasons he brought the team to two NCAA tournaments, and a 35-11 record in Summit League play.

Since the 2021-22 season Otzelberger has been the head coach for Iowa State.

The former SDSU coach was grateful for his time in South Dakota for a game at the Sanford Pentagon on Monday.

TJ Otzelberger said, “Well I think a stop in Brookings, you really learn what you are as a coach, what you believe and how to put that identity in place. We had some struggles and challenges at start of first year and we are very fortunate toward end of year to get out of at other side of it and end up in NCAA tournament...but it wasn’t perfect t
