WOODLAND Wash. (KPTV) - As the future of SNAP benefits in Washington remains unclear, McPhee’s Butcher Block in Woodland has organized a community food pantry, fridge and freezer to help those in need.
“My philosophy was if we can help one or two families, it’s totally worth it,” said owner James McPhee.
McPhee’s Butcher Block opened after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022. The butcher shop offers custom cut and wrap processing services, and also has a retail storefront, providing its southwest Washington community with quality, locally sourced meat.
But when the government shut down and McPhee realized that many of his community members were going to be left without their SNAP benefits, he knew he wanted to help.
