A victim who waited five years for justice after being attacked by her ex-partner has said she has lost faith in the justice system.

The woman, who has asked for her identity to be kept anonymous, claimed she was beaten and controlled by her former boyfriend.

Following a vicious attack in her flat that left her with heavy bruising, an officer was instructed to take a statement from her. Instead, he said her story was not ‘credible’ and closed the investigation without informing an inspector.

At the time, having reported the matter, GMP apologised to the victim and admitted that the officer failed to take a statement from the woman, and that he made a decision to drop the case without consulting a more senior member of staff - against GMP policy.
