The Democrats vying to succeed Peter Neronha as attorney general all style themselves as fighters who will stand up to President Donald Trump and defend Rhode Islanders’ civil rights.

They talk about protecting the public from environmental pollution and corporate wrongdoing, not just gun-toting criminals. For the most part, their campaign announcements barely mentioned crime at all.
