A woman reported being defrauded of $2,400 while trying to subscribe to an Amazon Prime account Oct. 23. The woman said she found the supposed Amazon Prime subscription phone number through a Google search, and the contact person on the phone identified himself by name and badge number, and the subscription by a case number. The woman sent the person, “Tyler,” $2,400 through a banking app, and was then instructed to purchase $2,500 in gift cards and send Tyler photos of the cards in order to be refunded the $2,400. The woman did so, and Tyler informed her he would need another $2,400 to complete the refund. At this point, the woman’s son-in-law became aware of the phone conversation and told her it was a scam.
