IRON RIVER – Two nights after stunning the 13-time defending district champion Calumet Copper Kings in their MHSAA Division 3 District 65 semifinal match, the West Iron County Wykons looked to complete their upset title bid at home Friday against Painesdale-Jeffers.
And while the Wykons showed some signs of the resilience and confidence they used to knock the Copper Kings off the mountain, it wasn’t enough as the Jets dashed West Iron’s dreams of its first district volleyball championship in eight years with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22 triumph at Charles Greenlund Gymnasium.
