A 76-year-old man was critically injured after he was run down by a hit-and-run driver Saturday afternoon in Freeport, Nassau police said.
The unidentified man was crossing North Grove Street at the corner of Brooklyn Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. when he was struck by a light-colored sedan, according to a statement by Nassau police department. The driver fled from the scene, heading south on North Grove Street.
The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver.
