"A sheet of ice." That's how many first responders are describing bridges in the Valley.
The winter-like chill is being blamed for traffic accidents during the Monday morning commute throughout the Valley.
Bridges and ramps covered in what authorities are calling "Black Ice" appear to be the main culprits.
In Youngstown alone, police are responding to more than 20 crashes, with most of those happening on the freeway. The Madison Avenue and Himrod Avenue expressways are closed as crews remove vehicles and treat the roadways.
At least one car was heavily damaged in a multi-vehicle pileup between I-680 southbound and the Himrod Expressway.
Crashes were also reported in Youngstown along the Williamson Avenue Exit on the Himrod Expressway, West Liberty at High Street, the Mahoning Avenue
